ABOUT
Michelle Thompson is a freelance choreographer and professor at SUNY Purchase, previously serving as Artistic Director of Spark Movement Collective (2020–2024). After training at the San Francisco Ballet, she danced with Ballet Austin for 14 years. During her tenure in Texas, she performed works by iconic choreographers including Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Ulysses Dove, and Stephen Mills, alongside contemporary voices like Sidra Bell, Greg Dolbashian, Nelly van Bommel, Amy Seiwert, James Gregg, and Thang Dao, While in Austin, she earned her undergraduate degree from St. Edward’s University.

An award-winning choreographer specializing in immersive dance, Michelle frequently partners with Grammy-winning musicians like Scott Tixier and Johnny Butler on multimedia projects. Her acclaimed evening-length work, Dinner Party, premiered to sold-out audiences in New York in September 2025. Her extensive commission credits include Avant Chamber Ballet, Pegasus Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Hartford, Ballet Spartanburg, Ballet Austin II, J Chen Project, NuVu Festival, Create ART, SUNY Purchase, The Hartt School, Harvard Ballet, Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Counter Pointe, and Prelude Projects. She also creates work for film and music videos, including Pete Muller’s “Let You in.”

She teaches at premier studios including Steps on Broadway, Peridance, NY Community Ballet, and New Jersey Ballet. Additionally, she is a 500-hour Yoga Alliance Certified instructor, teaching since 2008. She is a proud mother of three.
