Brief description about the collection: “Silicon Lung” – This collection holds empathy for the computer, its original purpose to function as a tool, its unknowing birth into something in between humanity and its original form. The garments represent humanity’s fossil, illustrating its love, sorrow, history, and the way it cannibalizes these characteristics. I stand against the phasing out of the human hand and traditional craft techniques by the swift industrialization of fashion. By merging atomic age futurist aesthetics with the time-honored craft of knitting, I marry the doomed machine and the human in his work. My thesis utilizes flatbed machines, SHIMA, and hand-knitting techniques, as well as integrating hand-built ceramic elements and accessories into the garments.

Bio of the designer: Auguste DuBois is a fashion designer from South Florida, currently residing in Brooklyn and holds a BFA in fashion design from Pratt Institute. His work takes an exegesis on the rise of artificial intelligence and its effect on humanity and the ecology of our world through the lens of irony. His practice utilizes flatbed machines, SHIMA knit technology, and hand-knitting techniques, as well as integrating hand-built ceramic elements into textile. His work is focused around bringing craft techniques to the forefront and honoring the history behind them. Auguste plans to work as a knitwear and accessories designer, with the goal of creating an independent knitwear brand.
