ABOUT
Yuki Hasegawa founded the Azul Dance Theatre in 2004, and since then her works have been featured at the United Nations Auditorium, 92nd Street Y, Ailey Citigroup Theater, El Museo Del Barrio, Gelsey Kirkland Arts Center, and in Europe and Japan. Yuki has produced full evening concerts at the Merce Cunningham Studio and Salvatore Capezio Theater, and her latest commissioned work with CUNY Dance Initiative Residency Program 2016, “Vision,” was presented at Tribeca Performing Arts Center at BMCC in November 2016. She holds her MA in Dance and Dance Education from NYU, and her BA from Kobe College in Japan. While she was in Tokyo, she worked with renowned Japanese choreographers, and led a busy performing career in musical theater, television, and film. She currently serves on the faculty of Peridance Center.  In the Wonderful World of Dance Magazine, Azul’s work has been recognized “fluidity in transitions and beautiful contemporary partner work,,,,with sultry, emotional, and raw energy” which consists of Hasegawa’s vision of creating works influenced by Japanese performing arts and American contemporary dance.

Company Mission
Azul Dance Theatre is a recipient of CUNY Dance Initiative Residency Program 2016 at Tribeca Performing Arts Center at BMCC. Founded by an artistic director Yuki Hasegawa in 2004, Azul Dance Theatre is a collective of NY based contemporary dance artists. Azul’s latest works feature the theme of human complexity and its emotional conflicts, beliefs, and encounters. During the creative process, Azul Dance utilizes structured improvisation and Hasegawa’s choreography as a means to exhibit the universal nature of contemporary life.
